Popularity of online search for VW and Audi by county

Figures released by used car sales website fish4cars reveal some interesting insights relating to online searches on their website, both in terms of the most popular searched for cars by make and model as well as regional trends The report is based on an analysis of 15 million searches for cars on the site between January and May 2007. The fish4cars top ten by make and model Jan – May 07

1. Ford Fiesta 628,000 searches
2. Vauxhall Corsa 582,000 searches
3. Volkswagen Golf 496,000 searches
4. Ford Focus 385,000 searches
5. Peugeot 206 367,000 searches
6. Renault Clio 345,000 searches
7. BMW 3 Series 331,000 searches
8. Audi A3 325,000 searches
9. Honda Civic 300,000 searches
10. Ford Ka 189,000 searches

The report also includes a comprehensive breakdown of which car models are the most popular regionally. The UK as a whole is a nation of Ford lovers, but there are a number of regions where other makes take pole position - London and Slough, for example, where the Volkswagen was the most frequently searched model

Unfortunately, the report doesn’t analyse online searches for Audi, but it’s possible to assume that the same urban (?socio-economic?) trends might apply.

The Audi TT is a car ‘most at risk’ of being stolen according to Home Office figures

Car Theft Index - Audi and VW

An article in The Times over the weekend highlighted the sentencing of the most prolific car-ringing gang in Britain in the past decade. Many of the 306 cars stolen on the orders of the gang were taken after the keys were stolen from owners’ homes. Although Police have recovered 190 of the cars stolen, they are still looking for the £4.5 million amassed by the criminals between 2000 and 2004 regarding cheap phentermine diet pills

What is interesting is how Audi and Volkswagen featured in the list of cars specifically targeted by the gang:
Top targets

Audi TT Quatro
BMW (6 Coupé)
VW Golf (V6)
Porsche Boxster
Mercedes 500SL
Ferrari 360 Modena
Ferrari F355 Spyder

To some degree, this reflects the findings of the Home Office Car Theft Index 2006 which covers thefts occurring in 2005 and which shows the cars stolen by car type and phentermine weight loss pills

Specifically focusing on Audi and Volkswagen, the majority appear to be classed as ‘medium risk’ which is defined as “between 3 and 13 cars in every 1,000 on the road stolen” or ‘lower risk’ - “less than 3 cars in every 1,000 on the road stolen”.
However; cars classed as ‘most at risk’, whose definition is given as “more than 13 cars in every 1,000 on the road stolen and at least four times more at risk of theft than the lowest risk cars” include: phentermine cheap

Whilst the findings of the survey are open to some debate and interpretation, unsurprisingly; older models feature prominently owing to their relative lack of security, but clearly the newer Audi S and TT models are deemed to be at higher risk.

Here they are (correct spelling in brackets):

Although the article doesn’t clarify whether the results are based on Yahoo.com or .co.uk search engine, a number of the search terms above appear to be more US-centric than otherwise (*which might possibly go some way to exonerate UK spelling!) ….but all the same it is ?surprising? to see that the incorrect spelling of Volkswagen comes in at No.9.

Skoda Fabia Cake Car Advert - How did they do it?

By now it’s quite likely that you will have seen the new Skoda Fabia “Car Cake” advert and, like us, perhaps you too wondered “how did they do that?”

Intrigued, we contacted Skoda’s Press Office to find out more…..

Q: Is this for real? Is it really cake ?
A: Yes ! From the sugar-dusted white roof down to the treacle-filled engine, the cake car is as close to the real thing as it’s possible to get with sponge. Legions of the country’s finest chocolatiers, bakers and bricklayers were enlisted to construct the scrumptious Škoda..

Q: What happened with the cake car after the filming of the commercial?
A: Although it was originally envisaged to cut the cake car up and distribute it to local charities, schools and hospitals following filming of the commercial, unfortunately, however, as the car had been under hot studio lights for several days, it was deemed to have posed a potential health and safety risk if eaten.
Some parts were preserved though, such as the marzipan wing-mirrors and chocolate speedometer. The rest of the car was composted and will be used by residents of Clapton, East London, to fertilise their gardens and allotments.

Q: What’s the recipe?
A: To build a cake Fabia you will need:

10kg white chocolate chunks
3kg orange peel strips
12.5kg raspberry jam
100kg wheat flour
100kg caster sugar
50kg icing sugar
20kg glacier cherries
30kg brown almonds
20kg raisins
25kg dried apricot
5kg cocoa powder
180 fresh eggs
90kg brown sugar paste
40kg black sugar paste
50kg white sugar paste
42kg chocolate fudge
